GSM: Global System for Mobile Communication Handover (Am.: Handoff): change of operation on frequency channel to a new frequency channel as the user moves from from one cell to another. low power design: design methods that minimize battery power consumption in order to increase the "talk-time" and minimize weight and size of the handheld. macro cellular network: cellular network with cell sizes on the order of several hundreds of meters up to 30 km or even more micro cellular network: cellular network with small cell sizes (of a few hundred meters at most) MSC: Mobile Switching Center (Network entity that control several base stations) RF: Radio frequency pico cellular network: cellular network with extremely small cell sizes (of a few meters) |
