Mobile Multimedia

Description 
The goal of the Mobile Multimedia exercise is to learn what is possible now, and what obstacles still have to be overcome before Mobile Multimedia will be as widespread as PCs and GSM phones are now. The course follows a multidisciplinary setup by considering the following topics: 

1. Applications
2. User Interface
3. Compression
4. Protocols
5. Modulation and Transmission

Each topic is introduced in a lecture and further analyzed by discussion and self study. Students work in small groups of 2, 3 maybe 4, on a problem posed by the board of a hypothetical telecomm firm in one of the five subject areas. They produce: 

• a report motivating their solution to the problem
• a management summary in the form of an HTML page
• references to relevant literature
• a presentation, instead of a final exam
