
Instructions for Authors
The Wireless CD-ROM invites the submission of contributions in the form of
- HTML pages, replacing existing pages
- new HTML pages
To ensure crossplatform compatibility, the pages must be given temporary names that
follow the MS DOS 8 plus character rules. Pages may include hyperlinks to multimedia
contributions, such as audio, video, animations, still images, Preferred formats are .au
audio files, GIF or JPEG images and Java applets.
Acceptance Format
- Accept as new page on CD ROM
- Accept as modification of existing page on CD ROM
- Do not include as new page on CD ROM but refer to a page maintained by the author from
CD ROM
Reference Value
- To whom is this proposed contribution of interest? Engineers or researchers in a company
or with operators or service providers; University students; ..
- Is it a basic discussion of a topic hitherto not covered or a significant improvement of
an existing "basic page"?
- Is it a significantly deeper discussion of a topic already covered.
- For how many years should this contribution be carried on the CD ROM? Is it likely that
it become superficial or obsolete soon? If so, is it sufficiently relevant now?
Educational Value
- Would you recommend a student working in this field to read this material? (Yes, as an
authoritive first introduction to the topic, Yes, but at a later stage when he is
deepening his knowledge and insight, May be, if he has time, No, it is a waste of time)
- Does the contribution give a good intuitive understanding of the main issues?
- Does the contribution help to understand a rigid scientific treatment of the issue?
Presentation
- Is the language correct?
- Are sentences kept simple enough to allow reading from a screen?
- Are the pages well structured?
- Is the length of page(s) appropriate?
- Should pages be combined? Should pages be split?
Technical Soundness
- Is the contribution scientifically correct? Is the treatment accurate and precise?
- Are "han.mp3ing" or "intuitive reasoning" indicated as such?
Scope, Depth and Coverage
- Is the contribution with in the scope of the CD ROM?
- Is there any unwanted overlap with other pages?
- Is there a discontinuity or gap between the depth and coverage of this proposed page and
the existing pages?
- Can/should other pages refer to this page?
- Should the Table of contents page have a pointer to this contribution?
Use of MultiMedia Features
- Do the authors appropriately exploit the possibilities of a multi-media presentation?
- Are equations presented in an efficient manner? (GIF images are inappropriate for simple
formulas, plain HTML text is inapropriate for complicated expressions, PDF is most
appropriate for lengthy mathematical discussions)
- Are the file formats used supported by browser software available to our subscribers?
- Is the occupation of space on the CDROM appropriate for the importance of the content?
Bibligraphic References
- Does the subscriber get enough information about where to find additional material?
- Are researchers whose ideas, concepts and results are cited credited in an appropriate
manner?
- Are standards and patents mentioned?
Hyperlinks
- Is the number a hyperlinks appropriate? (too few, too many, inappropriate ones?)
- What is the structure of the pages? Sequential, mesh, star, .. ? Can the subscriber
navigate easily?
