Paul Jessop is Director of Technology at the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry
(IFPI). He is responsible for technical programmes in support of the protection and exploitation of the
recording industries rights.
He is Project Manager of the MUSE Project, which is funded jointly by the recording industry and the
European Commission. The project aims, amongst other things, to recommend a preferred system for
hiding data in sound recordings. His other projects include anti-piracy, digital identifiers, on-line
protection and the development of the DVD standard, where he has taken a particular interest in
navigation and optional coding schemes. He also works with colleagues from IFPI, the Recording
industry Association of America and the record companies to lobby for protection of rights in the
information society.
Paul has been an AES member since 1996 and is a member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers
and the British Computer Society. He has an MA in Engineering and Computer Science from
Cambridge University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management obtained at Oxford University.
