Don Jerrard is a combined science and law graduate of Cambridge University and joined Backer & McKenzie in 1977 having previously practised with another leading London law firm. He has been head of the Intellectual Property Department since 1983. He practises in the full range of intellectual property matters, both contentious and non-contentious, and has a particular speciality in computer law. He was one of the first solicitors in the UK to appear in the newly formed Patents County Court. He has lectured and written extensively on many aspects of intellectual property law and was appointed a member of the board of the Federation Against Software Theft in 1988 and was the Chairman of its legal advisory group from 1988 to 1991. He was draftsman of the first draft of the Athens agreement for SCMS.
