Research Interests

Adaptive array, interference cancellation for personal, indoor and mobile radio communication (PIMRC), digital communication and signal processing, surface acoustic wave application, data compression and co-channel demodulation.

Current Research Activities

Communication systems in military applications are occasionally faced with hostile environments, while those in civilian applications are confronted with crowded inband signals that interfere with one another. Dr. Bar-Ness has been involved with combating analog co-channel interference, cross-polarization interference for satellite and microwave links, or jammers so that adequate communication occurs. He has been involved in research of adaptive algorithms for interference cancellation and signal separation in the time, spatial, and polarization domains. Furthermore, the recently expanding interest in personal and wireless communication, the need for an increased number of simultaneous users, and the limited availability of channel bandwidth has forced researchers to look into multiple access schemes with frequency re-used, such as code-division multiple-access (CDMA) or time slot sharing (TDMA). However, both systems suffer from interference. In this arena, Dr. Bar-Ness has been contributing and directing a group researching adaptive signal processing, spatial fast adaptive algorithms for blind signal separation and equalization, and wireless interference suppression.

Selected Publications

Dr. Bar-Ness has currently published 55 journal articles, 99 conference papers, and 1 book chapter.
